Indigo Foundation (IF) is an independent Australian
community development organisation, which provides
effective and innovative assistance to improve the lives
of people in marginalised communities
in Australia and the Asia-Pacific
region. We work in the areas of health,
education, environment and advocacy.
IF seeks to empower local communities to access
resources, and have control over the decisions that
determine their basic needs and human rights. We do this
by providing financial and technical support to local
'not for profit'
and community-based organisations, with a particular
focus on local capacity
building.
We currently support community
development projects in six
countries: 1. Rote, Indonesia:
public health education; supporting the development of a
high school with scholarship program; and water programs.
2. Borjegai, Afghanistan: education -
girls high school; building a new primary school; and
providing school books and teachers' salaries.
3. Weathercoast, Solomon Islands: a rural
livelihood training centre for young men and women and
leadership training.
4. Kokolopori, Congo:
supporting a health initiative to prevent
malaria through health promotion and distribution of
mosquito nets.
5. Dili, East Timor:
assisting
in the development of a breast feeding program through a
major hospital and establishing a tobacco control program.
6. Tamil Nadu, India:
setting
up an education program for Dalit children.
