Sally Stevenson – Chair
Sally is the founding Chair of indigo foundation. Sally has a Bachelor of Commerce, a Masters in Peace Studies and a Masters of Public Health. Over the past twenty years, she has worked in community development and public health, in Australia and internationally with organisations such as World Health Organisation, World Bank, Stanford University and AusAID. Sally also works for Médecins Sans Frontières, previously as Head of Mission in Ethiopia and South Sudan, and currently as a mentor for new Heads of Mission. Sally is our Management Committee Representative for Indonesia and Uganda as well as project manager for Australia.
Alice Martin – Treasurer
After qualifying and working as an accountant in Scotland, Alice moved to Australia after marrying a man from Wollongong. She worked in the food industry for several years before starting a family. Alice combined work and children until her twins arrived bringing the total number of children to four. She and the family spent several years in Townsville before returning to Wollongong. The family enjoy bushwalking, skiing and kayaking. Alice became involved with indigo foundation as she wanted to use her accounting skills in a socially responsible way whilst on a permanent maternity leave.
Alice Cameron
With a degree in English Literature and a Masters in Management (Marketing), Alice worked in corporate sales and then marketing until 2006 when she moved full-time to the not-for-profit sector. In 2008, after meeting Sally Stevenson in Ethiopia (where both Alice and Sally were working with Médecins Sans Frontières), Alice provided marketing advice to indigo foundation on an ad hoc basis until May 2010 when she joined the management committee. Currently Alice is working as a marketing consultant and is passionate about helping not-for-profit organisations implement marketing strategies that assist in meeting organisational objectives. Alice is the Management Committee representative for the Afghanistan: Borjegai project.
Susan Engel
Susan is a lecturer in Politics at the University of Wollongong, Australia. She has been a member of the Management Committee for much of the last seven years and over that time has taken on various roles including chairperson and secretary. Before academia, Susan worked managing development programs in East Timor and Mozambique and had also worked in government, the private sector and NGOs. Her research interests include the political economy of development, development volunteering, South-east Asia and the World Bank.
Phil Strickland
Phil has been a barrister for 16 years and a Senior Counsel for 2 years, specializing in criminal law and other public law areas. Between 1999 and 2001, Phil spent some time working for Aboriginal Legal Aid in Darwin and in Arnhem Land. Phil’s main interest is being involved with people who live in protected, wilderness or high conservation areas. Phil is the Management Committee representative for our projects in Australia and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Lucinda Wilson
Lucinda is a Sydney based barrister, who also practices in Tasmania. She is responsible for marketing and fundraising on the indigo foundation Management Committee and is the representative for the Solomon Islands project. Her formal training includes a Bachelors of Commerce and Law, both with first class honours. Her volunteer experience includes setting up and running a small, university based NGO called Grassroots EmpowerMent, whose goals were similar to those of the indigo foundation. More recently she has spent time in Tasmania volunteering for the Wilderness Society and representing individual activists who are arrested while protesting against old growth logging in that state. She continues to be involved in these matters in Tasmania.
Cressida Hall – Secretary
Deborah Raphael
A former lawyer Deborah has extensive experience in management of education and research projects in health and in human rights both in Australia and the Asia/Pacific region. She has a Masters in International Social Development from UNSW. Deborah is the Management Committee Representative for India and project manager of the Afghanistan Women’s Education and Empowerment Project.

Rob Mitchell – General Manager
Rob is a fellow of the Institution of Engineers (Australia), and has a business background which includes extensive international work. He has lectured in the Master of Project Management degree for Adelaide University in both Australia and Singapore. A very active Rotarian, he has held a range of roles, including President, at club level, and Assistant Governor, International Service Adviser and Training Director at district level. The similarity between Rotary’s principles and values, and those of indigo foundation has made the GM role a comfortable fit with Rob’s expectations.

Libby Lloyd – Patron
Libby has a strong presence in the international and development community and was awarded an Order of Australia for her contribution to international relations. Libby has filled a number of senior management positions in Immigration and Community Services within the Australian Public Service; has been a senior staff member and consultant to the UNHRC, and a senior coordinator and executive director in several large community organisations in Canberra. From 2002-2005, Libby was the President of UNIFEM Australia. Currently she is a Board member of the White Ribbon Foundation and the Representative for International Relations for UNIFEM Australia.
