Board member

indigo foundation is a small but powerful organisation achieving long term impacts in highly marginalised communities. We believe that real and sustainable change starts at the grassroots and that development work should be driven by local communities. Current programs include partnering with communities in Afghanistan, India, Indonesia, South Sudan and Uganda.

We are currently looking for two new board members. All board members take on full board responsibilities and most then add a specific portfolio that adds depth to the board’s work on those areas. Across these two positions we are looking for experience and expertise in international development, communications, marketing and board secretarial functions. One of these positions will assume responsibility of Board Secretary.

indigo foundation is supported by a small number of paid staff and a larger volunteer base. Over and above their governance responsibilities, board members generally carry responsibility for other activities that fit their skills and the organisation’s needs.

indigo foundation is a virtual organisation with people spread across the Eastern States. We are looking for people based in NSW, ACT or Victoria. The board meets face to face four times a year, with additional conference calls as needed. The board appoints committees and working groups, which usually meet by conference call.

Our guiding principles – community ownership, equity, transparency and sustainability – are key to the way we work and will form part of the essential criteria for selecting any new indigo foundation Board members. Please see the web site under “Our Approach” for a fuller explanation. Additional selection criteria will include your experience and expertise in the areas we are looking for and cultural fit with indigo foundation.  Previous board experience is welcomed but not essential.

If you are interested in joining the indigo foundation community and have the capabilities we are looking for please send your CV and a one page application to gwyneth.graham@indigofoundation.org by 17 September. Queries can also be made to this email address.
