indigo foundation is recruiting for two board members for our board.
We are looking for people who can demonstrate an understanding of our guiding principles – community ownership, equity, transparency and sustainability – and are motivated by our community development approach. In addition, we are seeking applications from people who bring skills and experience in one or more of the following areas:
- experience in international development
- personal experience of being a refugee and/or connections with diaspora communities in Australia
- expertise in gender equity and participation of women and girls in development
- experience in research and advocacy
- understanding of fundraising for international development and knowledge of philanthropic foundations and trusts.
Board experience is welcome but not essential.
Over and above their governance role, Board members generally carry responsibility for other activities that fit their skills and the organisation’s needs.
The board comprises nine people from diverse professional backgrounds and meets four times a year on Sundays. In addition, Board members may be invited to participate in working groups in their area of expertise or interest. Looking to the future it is likely we will embrace a mix of Zoom and face to face meetings. The role can be based anywhere in Australia.

For 20 years, indigo foundation has supported local community partners to empower women and girls, improve education and health outcomes, secure better livelihoods for families and defend their human rights. We currently partner with 18 local organisations across eight countries.

We know from the evidence that community-led development works to transform lives and build more resilient communities. And we recognise that achieving lasting change often requires advocacy on human rights, and communities working with government and other civil society organisations to address discrimination and gain access to rights and services. We are a virtual organisation and are proudly nimble and creative. We have four part time staff and a highly committed and talented volunteer and supporter base.
