PEKKA is a women’s empowerment organisation based in Indonesia with a membership of over 25,00 women ‘heads of household’ (including rural widows, abandoned and divorced women) in more than 800 villages across Indonesia. PEKKA has led campaigns and programs aimed at education, health, access to justice, livelihood and women’s leadership in the community.
PEKKA members are amongst the poorest of the poor with almost half (49%) of PEKKA households represented in the poorest 20% of Indonesian society with an income close to the Indonesian poverty.
In 2017, indigo foundation launched a new partnership with the PEKKA collectives in Adonara, Eastern Indonesia. This partnership is initially focusing on food security through coooperative gardens and improving education outcomes with a new small bursary program for students from primary to university and support for women who have dropped out of school to complete their school certificate.
In 2017/18 this program has been generously supported by the Nadia and Alf Taylor Foundation (previously tna foundation).
