Welcome

Indigo Foundation (IF) is an independent Australian community development organisation, which provides effective and innovative assistance to improve the lives of people in marginalised communities in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region. We work in the areas of health, education, environment and advocacy.

IF seeks to empower local communities to access resources, and have control over the decisions that determine their basic needs and human rights. We do this by providing financial and technical support to local 'not for profit' and community-based organisations, with a particular focus on local capacity building

We currently support community development projects in six countries:

  • Rote, Indonesia: in our oldest project we support a range of community development initiatives including public health education; support for the high school through a scholarship program; and irrigation and water programs.
  • Borjegai, Afghanistan: we support a community-based education program for all the villages in Borjegai. The project contributes to teachers' salaries and has provided finance for the construction of a girls high school and a primary school.
  • Weathercoast, Solomon Islands: IF is supporting a rural livelihood training centre for young men and women and leadership training.
  • Kokolopori, Congo: in this remote equatorial region, we are supporting a health initiative with a strong focus on malaria prevention through health promotion and the distribution of mosquito nets.
  • Tamil Nadu, India: IF supports the operation of an education program for Dalit (untouchables) children.
  • Ayui Foundation: Chiang Rai, Thailand: IF is providing technical support to this organisation that assists Akha hill tribe young people through education and support.
